SSL Vietnam carries the spirit of a nation with a thousand-year legacy on the sea, where sailboats were not just tools of survival and trade, but symbols of exploration, strategy, and resilience. Today, we stand not only to compete, but to revive and redefine Vietnam’s sailing heritage — transforming it from tradition to modern sport, from memory to aspiration.

Our vision goes beyond racing. We aim to reignite the culture of sailing in Vietnam — not just as a pastime, but as a discipline that combines intelligence, teamwork, endurance, and tactical mastery. Sailing is not only about speed; it is about coordination, precision, adaptability, and unity — values deeply rooted in the Vietnamese spirit.

Our team’s strength does not come from decades of experience, but from our ability to learn fast, adapt quickly, persist relentlessly, and never give up as long as there is wind to catch. Every race is a lesson, every wave is a challenge, and every challenge is a stepping stone toward putting Vietnam on the world sailing map.

We chose the number 8 because Vietnam’s S-shaped geography forms half of an 8. Extending the curve into the East Sea completes the 8. In addition, 8 symbolizes prosperity and luck, representing Vietnam’s S-shape fully.

THE CAPTAIN

DZUNG LE – LE TIEN DUNG

Dzung Le has experienced years of sailing younger in regatta in Malaysia and Thailanf, winning the Raja Muda Regatta in 1999. After years living in Vietnam. Dzung initiated the sailing activity and community in Halong Bay. Organized the first ever regatta in Vietnam and currently growing the community, taking steps to take Vietnamese sailor to international scene.

THE LEADERS

TONI BUI – BUI ANH TUAN

After retiring from the corporate world, Toni Bui dove headfirst into sailing. Now, they are dedicated to building the local sailing community by founding the Seanata Sailing Academy, initiating club activities, and organizing national regattas.

VICKY TRAN – TRAN THI HONG NHUNG

Vicky Tran has sailed 2,000 miles around Southeast Asia, departing from Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. She is the first female Vietnamese sailor to gain experience on a wide variety of keelboats and has competed in domestic and international regattas, including in China. She is a pioneer in promoting women’s sailing in particular, and Vietnamese sailing in general.

THE YOUTH FACTOR

Vietnam’s young sailors, such as Tuan, Dai and Trong, represent a new generation of talented and passionate athletes. Tuan, from Vietnam’s first generation of sailors, has been involved in sailing since 2016, gaining experience handling and maintaining various boats while competing in domestic and international regattas. Trong, with 9 years of experience, has trained on ILCA7, 49er, J24, J70, and ORC2 boats. They promise to bring energy and exceptional skills to upcoming competitions, helping elevate Vietnamese sailing on the international stage.
